Your Curvy Sisters
I'm a 16 year old girl, 5'1 and 142 lbs, meaning I am exactly 10 lbs over weight. Most of my weight is in my thighs and arms, making me insecure about wearing shorts, skirts or sleeveless shirts in public. I have recently started going to a gym and exercising more. My goal weight is 125 lbs. The problem is that I find it very difficult to start eating healthy because my family mostly buys junk food and fast food. How do I overcome the urge to eat unhealthy food when I am always surrounded by it?

This is something that I’ve always struggled with. I don’t blame my dieting problems on other people, but I am aware that it’s harder to eat healthy when you’re eating with people who aren’t or at a place where most of the food isn’t healthy. Temptation is something that you can eventually control, but makes dieting challenging when you first start out.

You may want to try talking to your family about your goals. If they know you are trying to diet, they may become more supportive and not tempt you. After you diet for a while and you start to see progress, you’ll feel stronger when you make healthy food choices because you see the results of your decisions. But at first, if you talk to them, they may be willing to at least purchase more healthy varieties of food to keep in the house in order to help you.

Good luck!
